I haven't read the New York Times regularly for some time, which leaves me without a major daily paper. Perhaps I should subscribe to the Washington Post, even though I live in New York? This Editorial about current events in Cuba gives one enormous hope for the sanity and decency of at least part of our mediacracy (mediocracy? hmmmmm . . .). Apparently, the key to getting mainstream support for opposition to Communist tyranny: use liberal weapons. The proposed national referendum is how the Chileans ultimately got rid of Pinochet. Be kind of embarrassing to let the Cuban tyrant avoid a similar procedure. |
